How I decided for online books and "The Escape" e-book in particular?
Online books are a big business. I consider my e-book as a good investment also. It is motivational and opens the reader for more global thinking. It is an online investing in yourself. My online books or products to sell were my stories with the temporary title “Pelican and Rabbits” and "Confession of a Refugee." After more thinking it became “The Escape” just one e-book for you. I already have many pages organized in ten chapters for the last eight years. The file in Microsoft Word 2002 was almost ready for conversion in PDF format. Few things were missing.
Looking at other books I did mine missing pages
For “Foreword” I have got one page and half introducing myself, the places in Eastern Europe, the time of my story and what benefits I expect for readers. The “Table of Contents” and the “Acknowledgments” were missing. The acknowledgments brought also the question about the copyrights, because I used verses from “IF” by Rudyard Kipling’ poem. The purpose of including verses was to give the English speaking reader a more comfortable experience, eventually to relate deeper with the facts described. The fact of the matter the poem "IF" was and is very important to me. The internet search gave me “The Kipling Society” in London, and I contacted them with my copyright request. The positive result of this experience is displayed at “Disclosure and Legal Statement” and was my pleasure to acknowledge The Kipling Society as well. The “Title page” after title change, was easy to do and acceptable at this point in time. The “Front Cover” with an attractive picture was for later; right now I was using 80/20, putting best efforts into the most important things first.
How I did the PDF file
I did about seven “Save As” in Microsoft Word to get an acceptable, printable with right spaces on all pages into one big xxxx.PDF file. My Word 2002 version has an icon for conversion to PDF format document and the Adobe Acrobat 7 is opening automatically in a new window the saved document. What you see in Adobe Acrobat 7 after the conversion is what you get. The editing in adobe is not an option for me right now, may be later. I keep it simple. I did all changes in Word and checked the results in Adobe Acrobat 7. The PDF format is becoming more standard because can be open in Windows and Mac computers. It is safer than EXE file format when is coming to protection against computer viruses. In top of that the Adobe Acrobat has free reader software downloads any time on their website. I have an Adobe Acrobat link for free download at my Thank You page just in case. In conclusion it was easier for me to work with one big file in Word and convert it in PDF format until I have got an acceptable e-book. This info is for you to use now. I would like to have them before I started.
